Soldier

lyrics

Don’t know what it was that I was thinking at the time
Don’t know what it was that made me join the line
When a body in a box seems like nothing new
With the flag all red white and blue

And every one of us was young and naive
I was looking for something to believe
But they’ve taken my religion and turned it upside down
And they burned all the houses to the ground

And when it came on deep in the night
I was thrown down frozen with fear
And I prayed dear god don’t let this take too long
But it feels like forever to be gone

Dear Jesus Christ I don’t know who’s fault it is
don’t know the history or all the politics
Can you find me something that will make amends
For the war has taken all my friends

And when the orders came from all those miles away
Echoed down the corridors of power like a play
And I don’t know how they’d feel if they were sitting here
When you know that the end is getting near

Now chaos reigns here and helicopters glide
The only thing I’m thinking of is wheres a place to hide
And I don’t want no ribbon tied around no tree
Cause it wont bring the feeling back to me

And I don’t know now what I’m doing here
In this hell on earth of every darkest fear
But it doesn’t really matter cause this is where I am
Stuck inside the madness of the man
